Welcome to Batphile

Welcome to my bat blog. This blog was designed as a way to let people know a little bit about me, and a lot about bats. I have been studying bats for more than twenty years and giving public talks about them for more than ten years. Through this blog I will share stories of my experiences with bats over the years, and share new and exciting bat information as I learn it. I will also let people know about upcoming bat talks and programs.

So, why Batphile? Batphile is a way for me to let the world know that I am a crazy bat lady without saying it outright. That’s pretty much how I live my life. I have varied and sometimes unusual interests and I am shy enough not to want to advertise it. At the same time, I am proud of being a bat lady thus, batphile was born.

Taking the bite out of bats? Most people see bats as scary, diseased, verminous creatures bent on biting humans or nesting in their hair. By giving bat talks and programs I am taking the edge off of the fear and misunderstanding that surround bats – taking the bite out.

The header picture on this blog is of an Eastern pipistrelle clinging to the ceiling of a cave in Kentucky. I took the picture back in 1998 during my second Bat Conservation and Management workshop sponsored by Bat Conservation International.
